It is the central ring that connects some of the most famous historical centers of the region with this sequence: Assisi, Spello, Foligno, Bevagna, Montefalco, Spoleto, Todi, Perugia.
The route, despite some long flat stretches, is challenging because it reaches and crosses the squares and the most significant points of interest of all the historic centers that, except for some (Foligno and Bevagna) are perched on the heights.
The ring runs clockwise. From Montefalco to Spoleto the Assisi Spoleto cycle route is used. All the rest of the route is on secondary roads with little traffic and with a discrete background. The crossing of Perugia is difficult, but it's worth it because you can explore it better by bike than by any other means.
It is the ring that allows you to discover the district of the lower Valnerina, the Terni and the Amerino-Narnese. In sequence we meet the centers of Arrone, Piediluco, Marmore, Terni, Stroncone, Narni, Amelia, Alviano, Baschi, Civitella del Lago, Melezzole, Avigliano, Montecastrilli, Acquasparta. In addition to the Valnerina, the route runs along secondary roads to discover the wonders widely described and immortalized in famous paintings by travelers of the Grand Tour: the Mar-more Waterfall, the Piediluco Lake, the Augustus Bridge in Narni, to which are added the Franciscan Speco of Sant'Urbano (a treasure of authentic spirituality), the naturalistic Oasis of Alviano, the Lake of Corbara, the Fossil Forest of Dunarobba, the Archaeological Park of the ancient Casulae, a Roman city of great interest. The route is challenging due to the presence of numerous climbs but uses many secondary roads with little traffic and unquestionable scenic beauty.
It is the ring of Trasimeno and Monte Peglia. The route crosses in sequence the historical centers of: Castiglion del Lago, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Marsciano, San Venanzo, Orvieto, Castel Viscardo, Ficulle, Monteleone di Orvieto, Città della Pieve, and many small minor towns. The blue in the green heart of Italy is the claim of this ring that allows you to discover two little publicized aspects of this region: its great lake, that of the battle of Hannibal, appreciated and praised by travelers of the Grand Tour, and a mountain characterized by the presence of lush vegetation up to the top. Another pearl of this ring is the crossing of Orvieto with direct access, from via Maitani, to the magnificent Duomo. An unforgettable view and an opportunity to appreciate the wonderful works of art that it contains inside. The route is partly easy and partly challenging, but divided into stages is accessible to anyone.
It is the ring of the Alta Valnerina that from Spoleto allows to reach the centers interested by the recent seismic event such as Monteleone di Spoleto, Cascia, Norcia, Preci. A very beautiful route with enchanting landscapes that cross a very varied nature, indifferent to the effects of the earthquake. To reach these centers you do not cover the valley floor but you prefer secondary roads. So from Spoleto to Sant'Anatolia di Narco the Forca di Cerro pass is faced along a road parallel to the route of the famous former Spoleto Norcia Railway (now a cycle track on a dirt road not suitable for racing bikes). From Sant'Anatolia, Caso-Gavelli is tackled, one of the mythical climbs of Valnerina, inserted several times in the stages of the Tirreno Adriatico and the Giro d'Italia. To reach the other centers you must necessarily face other climbs, less demanding but equally beautiful for the landscapes that you cross. The route is particularly challenging but, divided into stages, it becomes accessible even to the less trained not looking for performance but the widespread beauty present in this part of Umbria.
